MediCupping is a modern evolution of traditional cupping therapy, using vacuum suction cups (rather than fire) to gently lift and separate soft tissue layers. Unlike the static cupping used in traditional practice, MediCupping moves the cups across the body in a gliding motion, creating a unique "reverse massage" effect that pulls tissue upward rather than pushing it down.
At Align, MediCupping is performed by Tracy River, our Certified Lymphedema Therapist and MediCupping practitioner. Tracy integrates cupping into a broader therapeutic approach that addresses pain, inflammation, and lymphatic congestion, making it particularly effective for clients dealing with chronic tension, post-surgical recovery, or lymphatic issues.
What to Expect
Your session begins with a brief consultation to identify your primary concerns and areas of focus. Tracy will select cup sizes appropriate to the treatment area and apply them with controlled suction, enough to lift the tissue, but always within your comfort range.
The cups may be left stationary for short periods or moved in long gliding strokes along muscle bellies and fascial lines. You may notice a pulling or stretching sensation; most clients find this unusual at first but deeply relaxing as the session progresses.
Some temporary skin discoloration (redness or circular marks) may appear after treatment. This is a normal response to increased circulation and typically fades within a few days. It is not bruising and does not indicate injury.

Is MediCupping Right for You?
MediCupping is well-suited for clients dealing with chronic pain, fibromyalgia, lymphedema, post-surgical scarring, or general muscular tension that hasn't responded well to conventional massage. It is also popular as a complement to lymphatic drainage therapy for clients managing swelling or immune concerns.
MediCupping is contraindicated for clients with active skin infections, open wounds, certain blood disorders, or those taking blood thinners. Tracy will review your health history before your session to ensure this therapy is appropriate for you.
Conditions MediCupping Can Help
MediCupping is known to support improvement in a wide range of conditions, including fibromyalgia, TMJ dysfunction, arthritis, scoliosis, sinusitis, sluggish colon or IBS, and edema/lymphedema. It is also highly effective for joint mobilization, fascial adhesions, pre- and post-surgery recovery, scar reduction, body detoxification, and reducing the appearance of cellulite and fine lines.
